Razer 'Jumps In' * Update
2010-01-18
Another informative release was made by the guys over at Gizmodo about the new Razer Xbox 360 controller that they are working on named Onza. Here is what they detail in their article.

"If you applied a PC gamer's obsession with gear and tweakability to a console controller, Razer's Onza Xbox 360 controller is basically what you'd expect: Reprogrammable buttons, elongated triggers, two extra buttons and joystick tension adjustment (!).

Razer's crammed an extra button onto each shoulder, which can be mapped using the switches on the back of the controller, and warped the traditional trigger into something the swoops out much further, reminding me of extra-long fingernails. The sticks feel a bit too tall, a consequence of the twist-and-click dial for adjusting how hard you have to click on the joystick button. The D-pad is great, on par with the special one on Mad Catz's SFIV pad. It's clear after playing some Halo ODST, though, that the new configuration would take some getting used to, even though the shape of the controller is as good as Microsoft's own."

Razer, a company known for their PC gaming peripherals, has launched two items for Xbox 360. It was announced this week at CES in Las Vegas. The items come in the standard Black on Black Razer theme.

The Razer Onza is the Xbox 360 controller. Its boasts adjustable tension on analog sticks, two multi-function buttons and unique customization for gamers.

Price = $49.99

The Razer Chimaera gaming headset which provides 5.1 Channel surround sound, comfortable, adjustable sizing, and a microphone for voice chat. Razer is promoting the headset as one of the few Xbox 360 headsets providing full stereo-grade sound, with most third-party headsets offering lower sound quality.

Price = $129.99
Army of Two: The 40th Day
2010-01-17
Army of Two: The 40th Day is the second game in the AoT series. The first game was pretty popular though it did have its pitfalls just as most games do.

The trailer to the new game got me hooked. I have yet to play it but i have read several reviews and reviews seem to say that this game is above average but of course coming in off the coat tails of games like Assassin's Creed 2, Modern Warfare 2 and Left for Dead 2. Generally speaking, the user reviews have seemed better than the site reviews.

Gamespot provides the following observations:

The Good:

* Brutal, satisfying gunplay
* Engaging weapon customization
* Diverse, detailed environments
* Good implementation of light cooperative tactics
* Surprising replay value.

The Bad:

* Often laggy online play
* Short campaign
* Some movement awkwardness
* Weird dabbling in morality.

If you get to check this game out, let us know what you think in the forums.

Avatar vs. Modern Warfare 2
2010-01-15
Numbers have been crunched on the mega popular movie Avatar by James Cameron and one of the most popular video games of all time, Modern Warfare 2. Here's how they stacked up...

AVERAGE UNIT COST:
Avatar: $7.20
MW2: $59.99

AMOUNT EARNED TO DATE (1/13/2010):
Avatar: $1.37bn
MW2: $1bn

PRODUCTION BUDGET:
Avatar: $230 million
MW2: $50 million

ADVERTISING BUDGET:
Avatar: $150 million
MW2: $200 million

PROFIT TO DATE:
Avatar: $990 million
MW2: $750 million

Pretty interesting numbers. I am surprised how well MW2 did considering video games don't go out to the masses like a movie. Pretty cool info. though.
New Info on Halo:Reach
2010-01-11
Here's a full list of Halo Reach info taken from the latest Gameinformer.

- Reach will NOT follow the book, Fall of Reach.

- We play as Spartan IIIs. Jorge is the only Spartan II on the team, and as a result is larger.

- Carter 259 and Kat 320 are the only members of their original squad.

- Jorge is a heavy weapons specialist.

- "Skully" now has a name, Emile 239. He's the silent type of the game.

- The sniper is called Jun 266. He's thoughtful and taciturn.

- We can customise the appearance of the Lone Wolf by a small degree. Awesome.

- The game is apparently darker than any of the other Halo games, even more so than ODST.

- Human Insurrectionists are possibly in the game

- Bungie have once again made the Covenant more dangerous and frightening, as they were in Halo 1.

- Covenant soldiers no longer speak English, they speak in their own languages.

- A new enemy like a Jackal has been introduced, named a "Skirmisher." They are deadly and cunning enemies that attack in packs, and flank secure positions.

- Graphics have been improved drastically, as proven by in-magazine comparisons.

- Elites are back, and are more ferocious than ever.

- Larger scale combat will be in Reach. Where only 20 AI at a time could be on screen in Halo 3, now over 40 AI and 20 vehicles can be present at a time.

- Scenes are more cinematic.

- Noble Team splits up at a point in the story, but it seems they soon get back together.

- Health Bar is back along with energy shield.

- Single shot rifle like the Halo 2 E3 demo is in the game, named the Designated Marksman Rifle (DRM)

- Sniper, AR and Magnum make a return. Gun sounds are more realistic.

- Needler Rifle is in the game, a mid-range headshot capable weapon.

- Spike Grenades and Flame Grenades are out. Only frags and plasma remain.

- Helicopter Transport is called the Falcon.

- Civillian vehicles are now drivable.

- Fully stealthy gameplay is now possible.

- Assassinations are possible with a knife by holding down the melee button.

- Sprinting is now possible through an equipment like mechanic.

- Spirits, the Covenant drop ship in CE, return in Reach, alongside Phantoms.

- Grunts look a lot more menacing.

- Motion Tracker seems compressed, like an oval rather than the Halo 3 circle.

- Hud is yellow rather than blue.

- Marines look vaguely like Halo 1 marines.

- Phantoms now have a flashlight, like the one seen in the ODST announcement trailer.

- Elites seem taller, and are no longer hunched.

- All features from Halo 3 (Forge, Theatre, Co-op) make a comeback along with several new ones.

- We will be shown what Reach looks like before it is destroyed. We will see the levels of destruction progress as we get further through the game, implying the game takes place over a longish period of time.
Dell Alienware M11X Is Sub-$1000 Netbook
2010-01-09
Dell/Alienware will be releasing a new unit called the M11X. It is a sub-$1000 netbook for gaming. This of course brings end to the common thoughts that Alienware are bulky laptops for gaming.

Here are some specs:

- 6 1/2 hours of battery life (battery mode)
- 2 hours of "intense gaming"
- 3D mark scores in 6-7k range
- 50FPS Crysis, 30FPS CoD on High Settings
- Under $1000 (later this year, we believe)

Pictures will be up soon. You can see them now at the link for the article.
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 *Update
2009-12-25
I wanted to consolidate some of the information i have been reading about this game into one post so here it goes.

- March 2nd 2010 release date
- Building can be completely destroyed now
- 24 Players

- NEW GAME TYPE: Squad Deathmatch
- 4 teams of 4
- First to 50

Maps

Laguna Presa

Described as "an area set in a vibrant jungle where a series of small islands are separated by knee-deep pools and streams. This map has a lot of small patches of foliage to hide in, as well as a number of rickety wooden buildings that don't provide a whole lot of protection from incoming gunfire. This map is a stark departure from previous Bad Company 2 maps we've seen, which were set in snowy Alaska and parts of arid South America"

Panama Canal

Described as "a shipping yard set on the famous maritime passageway in Central America. This industrial-themed map offers a demolished collection of rusted freighter boats and shipping cans and gives you the chance to cruise around in several tanks and quad ATVs."

Port Valdez

Described as "snowy landscape is a marked departure from the green forests and brown desert maps that made up the first game's combat zones. But once again, vehicles are your best option for traversing the terrain. On this map, we spotted the tanks and helicopters that you'd expect, plus a new vehicle in the form of a four-wheel ATV."

Arica Harbour

Described as "a map that focuses on a lot of on-foot, close-quarters combat. In fact, there are no helicopters on the map at all, unless you count the recon drones players can pilot remotely to scope out enemy positions. This stands in stark contrast to the other map we've played on--such the snowy Alaskan map Port Valdez--which had a ton of vehicles to choose from and lots of long stretches of snowy dirt roads."

Notes

- DICE has made players easier to kill
- Added Dedicated Melee button
- Rewards are unlocked mid-match
- A soldier who's been wounded in a fight but survived will slowly heal himself. Slow but will help when all alone.
- "Not only can you mix and match primary and secondary weapons more easily across different classes, but you can also customize a good many parts of your gun such as the scope and grenade-launcher type."

Information from Gamespot.com & Battfield Blogs at EA. Thanks for all the info. Game looks to be very very promising.

'Ghost Recon Future Soldier' trademarked
2009-12-23
Looks like Ubisoft will be releasing another chapter in its storied Ghost Recon series. The article states that it should be released sometime after March in 2010. Seems vague but i thought it was noteworthy.

Brings about some interesting possibilities. GRAW had several technologies that are not yet used in current warfare. Hopefully we will see an innovative way to adapt their game without taking it overboard.

Third Person Tactical
2009-12-23
For all readers who enjoy a good game of "Third Person Tactical", you might want to steer clear of it until the new patch for MW2 comes out. Currently, players are able to use a glitch in the game that involves this game type to get a "Public Private Match".

This sounds false at first but after some testing it is in fact true. We will be working to get some video of this gameplay up so that you can see it first hand. Until then, load up Third Person Tactical and see for yourself but don't plan on actually playing said game type.

Here is a quick Weapon Load Out recommendation:

Favorite Weapon
Favorite Shotgun
Semtex or Tactical Insertion
Stun or Flash
Sleight of Hand
Stopping Power or Hardline
Last Stand or Steady Aim
Painkiller

Killstreaks:

NO CARE PACKAGES (They will just get stolen)
Harrier or Chopper
Chopper Gunner
Nuke (It may be the only way to end the game)
Higher Quality Video
2009-12-23
Wondro and I have been looking for a way to getting better in game video on the site and we believe we have found it. I am ordering a new card that will allow for 720p and 1080i footage dump to PC. This means HD videos of in game play for the site. Look for this sometime in the coming week.

I will post a full review of the product after we do some preliminary testing.
